Key Points
- Setup User under Phones (in Local)
- You will need the phone’s MAC address or you can check the box to use PIN registration
- Under Phone (in Local) familiarise yourself with the Ext # format of Remote Phones (1290 etc)

- The below is for a Mitel 5312 IP Phone though it is a similar setup for any IP phone
Steps in Phone Manager
- Navigate to System, Devices and Feature Codes, Phones, Local. On RHS is a list of phones, descriptions and extension numbers. Note that the remote IP phones start at 1290 and have their own distinct icon. Note that there are missing extension numbers in that range. Make a note as any free one can be selected as below.
- Now on RHS choose a clear space and right click “Create 52xx/53xx….”
- Select a free Extension number in the correct range by scrolling through the Starting Extension box
- Either input MAC address or “Use PIN Registration” by checking the box
- Uncheck “Create User(s)” and “Enable Hot Desk” Click OK
- The Phone is now created in the list with no Description or Username
- Add the Description and the Username (this will be displayed on the handset)
- Now on LHS click the plus sign beside Local. Select the newly created phone extension on LHS and click on the + and select “IP Settings”
- On RHS change “NAT Address Type” from “Native” to “NAT”
Exit Phone Manager
Now refer to the “Setting Up a Mitel 5312 IP Phone in the Office for Home Use”
Superkey
By selecting in the above “Use PIN Registration” and not entering the user phone’s MAC address prompts the user at the setup stage to “Enter Secret Code” and press the SuperKey.
The user needs to enter a code on the remote handset in the format three stars followed by the allocated Extension number (ie ***1290) and then press the (SuperKey) Blue button on the handset (the one with the sheet of paper and telephone symbols). This is described in the document above.
