There is a way to add an ActiveSync account to a Blackberry 5 device. There are a couple of things that need to be in place before we can do this.

Firstly is the sim setup to handle Blackberry Data?

Secondly is the E-Mail Setup Application at version 7.11.0525.0810 or above.

Lets assume that the E-Mail Setup Application is older that the version required.

1. On the device goto the webpage http://<carrier>.blackberry.com/rest/EmailClient/ (In our case the carrier is vodafone).

3. Download the update and reboot the Blackberry.
4. Ensure the Wi-Fi connection is off and the Mobile Network connection is on.

6. On the Blackberry go to ‘Messages’.
7. Then press the Blackberry Menu Key and choose ‘Options’.
8. Then scroll down to ‘Email Account Management’.
9. 
10. Once there you will be asked what type of account this will be. Choose ‘Other’
11. At this point type in the e-mail address and the network password of the account this is to be set up for.

13. Once done your account will be setup. Leave it at least twenty minutes and your e-mails should then be on your device.
