Now in order to use this feature, you will need to have <strong>Save AutoRecover information&#8230;<\/strong> and <strong>Keep the last autosaved version if I close without saving<\/strong> enabled inside Microsoft Office. (If you\u2019re not sure if you do, I have included the steps to enable this at the bottom of this post).<\/p>\n<p>Here are the steps to take to recover your unsaved new document in Microsoft Office Excel, Work, or PowerPoint 2010 if you inadvertently close it before saving it:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Office 2010 applications that you were using.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>File<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Recent<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Recover Unsaved Documents<\/strong> if you are in Word 2010, <strong>Recover Unsaved Workbooks <\/strong>if you are in Excel 2010 or <strong>Recover Unsaved Presentations<\/strong> if you are in PowerPoint 2010.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/gardinerfamily.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/11\/1.jpg\" alt=\"1.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gardiner.tech\/bluebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.jpg 500w, http:\/\/gardiner.tech\/bluebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Your saved drafts folder will open in a new window. Select the file and then click <strong>Open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the business bar at the top of the file, click <strong>Save As<\/strong> to save your file to your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can also access these files by using these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Office 2010 application you were using.<\/li>\n<li>Open a new file or any existing file.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>File<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Info<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Manage Versions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Recover Unsaved Documents<\/strong> if you are in Word 2010, <strong>Recover Unsaved Workbooks <\/strong>if you are in Excel 2010 or <strong>Recover Unsaved Presentations<\/strong> if you are in PowerPoint 2010.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-102\" src=\"https:\/\/gardinerfamily.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/11\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2.jpg\" width=\"469\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gardiner.tech\/bluebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2.jpg 469w, http:\/\/gardiner.tech\/bluebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2-300x97.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>You will see the list of your unsaved files. Select the file and click <strong>Open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the business bar at the top of the file, click <strong>Save As<\/strong> to save your file to your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Notes <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can also browse to one of the following file locations to open the file, depending on your operating system:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Windows 7\/Windows Vista<\/strong><br \/>\nC:\\Users\\User_Name\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Office\\UnsavedFiles<\/li>\n<li><strong>Windows XP<\/strong><br \/>\nC:\\Documents and Settings\\User_Name\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\Office\\UnsavedFiles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important <\/strong>These file locations cannot be changed.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Files in this folder will be kept for four days after creation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I followed the steps above and sure enough, my unsaved Excel sheet was right there and ready to go!<\/p>\n<p>Now, as promised in the beginning of this post, here is how to enable AutoRecover and AutoSave to protect your files in Microsoft Office:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the <strong>File<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Under <strong>Help<\/strong>, click <strong>Options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the <strong>Save AutoRecover information every <em>x<\/em> minutes<\/strong> check box is selected.<\/li>\n<li>In Word 2010, Excel 2010 and PowerPoint 2010, make sure the <strong>Keep the last autosaved version if I close without saving<\/strong> check box is selected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important <\/strong>The Save button is still your best friend. To be sure you don\u2019t lose your latest work, click Save\u00a0 (or press CTRL+S) often.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ul>\n<li>To be extra safe, enter a small number in the minutes box, like 10. That way, you\u2019ll never lose more than 10 minutes of work.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand, if you want to make Office faster, try entering a larger number in the minutes box, like 20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Hopefully you never find yourself in the position to need these auto-recovery tools with your documents, but if you do, hopefully the steps above will come in handy for you and save your day like it did for me today.\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft Office has a fantastic feature built in where it can recover unsaved new documents.
